I decided back when I was preg to run this 10 mile race in Lemont thinking it would be a good distance and goal to have 6 weeks post baby. OHHHHH how I was WRONG. It was one of the most challenging running races I have ever done. I didn't even know there was an elevation map for this race. I should have looked. Maybe I wouldn't have done it.
It started off as a great day. My mom came over so both Bill and I could go. It is like a date for us getting to do a race sans kids. I think when it really hit me how hard this was going to be was when I went back to where Bill parked the car to get something and it was on a steep incline and needed the emergency parking break! In Illinois!!!! Come on! So off we raced up and down and UP and UP. I wished it was a 5k at the 3 mile mark. That is not a good sign. Without the gigantic climbs the rest of the course was constant rollers which for me makes it hilly. It came to a point at mile 7 or so that I could no longer move my legs. I think it was a combination of bonking and legs that were just not ready for those climbs. So I had to back off a little just to finish! Come on, can you believe a 10 miler could do that. Once I finished I could have cried. It was like doing a half IM I was so tired and could barely walk. Then on Sunday, Monday, AND tuesday I could barely walk down the stairs straight. I haven't had to do the sideways walk like that since I did an IM years ago! MAN I LOVE that feeling!!!! Needless to say I wasn't in the top 5 even but I was totally okay with that. There was prize money and alot of fast runners came out for it. You know the "runners" are there when they come to the start line and have on there spanky uniforms and look like they could eat a hamburger. I know that they probably run 100 miles a week and eat these hills up like nothing. I can't believe that I will be doing a half Ironman in 5 months! I might be nuts.
One more thing, I think my daughter is gifted! I know it sounds arrogant (but isn't every parent that way). Yesterday I realized before the kids went to bed that I totally forget yet again taht I hadn't done "tummy time" with Molly. It is amazing with your first you do everything they tell you to and take pride in it. The second time around, at least for me, I forget everything. There are days I don't think she even lays on her stomach b/c I am so busy. But yesterday I put Molly on her tummy and she ROLLED OVER!!!! It was as if she was telling me, "hey Mom! do this more often with me and you will see how awesome I am!". It was a big moment. I went running to get Bill so he could see how talented our daughter is! (to be honest I really have no idea what is normal at what age but to see a 7 week old baby roll over was cool). Noah was even screaming. I think I might have an athlete on my hands or at least I am really hoping.
